Pretty
Today, I decided to open up my blog again and try to blog something. And then the first thing I saw when I opened WordPress was this blog entry about ‘Need to inject some passion into your writing? Slam, baby.‘.
Upon further reading, I realized that the entry was mostly about Slam Poetry. Now I know what you’re thinking, “What is that??”. Cos that was the exact same thing I was thinking…
But what came next… Was AMAZING. Slam poetry is poetry that kinda feels like rap, and is funny, and is commentary, and is intelligent, and makes you think, and hits you with a bang!
Because we live in a society and world where gender exist. And women are preconditioned to believe that you need to exist, live, behave and LOOK in a certain way. All men & women are created equal. But that’s not what we are all taught from birth.
“Don’t talk too loud.” “Don’t shout like that.” “Don’t dress like that.”"Don’t be too difficult and keep your opinions to yourself, no boys would like a girl who’s too argues too much.” “Don’t sit like that.”“Learn how to cook and learn how to clean, you’re going to need to do all that when you get married.”
Haven’t all girls heard something like that at some point of their life. It could have come from your parents, or your relatives, or your teachers, or even your friends.
And the worse of it all would probably be…
“Be Pretty.”
5 alphabets. P-R-E-T-T-Y. BE these 5 letters. In other words, be 32-24-34 in size. Have flawless skins. Be tall. Be fair.
Having said that, check this out!
So this is a reminder to all the women out there, and more importantly, it is a reminder to myself. That I AM pretty COOL, pretty AMAZING, pretty INTELLIGENT, pretty HAPPY and pretty CONFIDENT. And that’s exactly the same thing I’m going to teach the daughter that I might have someday.
